Weekend show report, and more upcoming show details!

Before I begin with the news and show update just a quick thanks to Nick from CITY OF GATES for letting me use his guitar cab this past Saturday, Gareth Kelbrick for doing our sound, Sian Rice for our lighting, Woz and Kay for accommodation, the owner of the SANSAMP bass pedal(sorry don’t know your name!), and YOU for coming along! It was so cool to see some now familiar faces. JHB is becoming our home from home again!

Past weekend show report:

Friday afternoon we headed off from Durban up to Richards Bay! We had to put the pedal to the metal for this one, it’s only a 90min drive or so but leaving at 6pm didn’t leave us much time and we didn’t want to miss any of the bands! After making an emergency toilet stop in the darkest patch of highway in history, and almost losing a cell phone in the process, we made it to the BAY just in time to catch FALLING UP DEAF EARS. Rad guys, rad sound, getting tighter everytime we see them! Sorry we missed POSTCARD PATRIOTS! We then set up merch and proceeded to break all merch sales records in CXP history! Oh my goodness what just happened!? Thanks for buying these shirts and hoodies guys and girls, that was incredible. I think the whole pit was wearing these when we played later:

Few people may know that the next band up AUREOLE, has Nathan Freese on guitar, who happens to be Ray our singers cousin. So there’s the connection! These guys are playing a rad passion and spirit filled positive form of metallic hardcore that gets you pretty stoked! Try and catch them when they start touring to your town (AUREOLE)

Our set was after this and oh my word was a LOT of fun. It’s been ages since 20 people got up on stage to sing a long.. what the flip? How do you guys know all our songs!!!?? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE! We want to come back in June ok?

After some late night veggie burgers (3 of us are, and always will be, vegetarian) we drove home through the night straight after the show. By 2am I was in bed and next I knew was awoken at 730am to pack and leave for EMPIRE NOT US in JHB!

Bath, pack car, drive.. dazed!

After meeting up with our second car in Montrose (the N3 halfway point), a couple hours later we’re all safely in JHB at what must rank as one of the most organised and professional events ever! EMPIRE NOT US!

On arrival, it was so good to be treated and directed to the right places by kind and courteous people who knew exactly what was going on! Makes such a difference!

We loaded out, and then some of us got some pizza, while others manned the merch stand and met some of you!

I managed to catch a few songs by Kabelo and chat to him briefly backstage, what a cool guy! Desmond and the Tutus had a nice stage energy, and our friends the Exploits were quite fun too! Sorry I didn’t see much of anyone else, except CITY OF GATES who played after us that night. This was their LAST show for maybe a LONG while due to Nick moving to PE for study/career reasons.

For our set we had a pretty big stage to flail around on, I think we took advantage of that ha-ha. Sorry if we messed up a few songs, but hey nothing like a little improvisation here and there. It’s tough being the only guitarist sometimes hey, gimme a break!

I ended the night off at a 24 hour pizza parlour with Sian and Ray. Dodged a few drug dealers on the way out, then hit the sack!

The next day.. Our drive back to Durban was started with the most important meal of the day.. BREAKFAST! Don’t ever forget it!

Salvation Cafe at 44 Stanley Avenue is our place of choice for this. Easily the best vegetarian options that we have been able to discover in JHB!!! Check it out!!

By 1pm we were back on the road enjoying the cool breeze and finding new positions for our bums on seats that are only comfortable for the first 30min. Oh the life ;)

PS. If anyone has any photos from ANY of our shows, this past weekend, or this past YEAR! Please get in touch.. we need them for our gallery page and will give you full photo credit!

We do it all again this weekend.. check it out:
